‘Oh, You Cheeky Boy’!
My name is Daniel Paintin. I have been a member of TramShed for 15 years. I am talking to my mum.
How did you hear about TramShed?
Daniel - I wanted to join a drama group. On the Chickenshed website it said a new group was starting in Blackpool. We went to a fundraiser and applied to join the new group. There were about seven people in the first adult company. Now there are over 30.
What does TramShed mean to you?
Daniel - Meeting friends. I enjoy the workshops, the games and activities, practising for a show and acting on the stage.
Have you got a favourite show?
Daniel - My favourite is still ‘Dreamcatcher’ in 2008, playing Master Philip, but there have been lots of good shows. I liked ‘Heads and Tails’ in 2014 and being the hotel inspector in ‘Northern Lights Hotel’ in 2012.
Have you got a favourite character?
Daniel - I have lots of favourite characters, Gladys in ‘Fun of the Fair’ in 2016, Andy in Little Britain, I played James Bond too. I like the fancy dress fundraiser each year and always manage to get a good costume. Last time I went as the Incredible Hulk and was painted all green. And I won!
Did lockdown affect you?
Daniel - We couldn’t go to Blackpool to TramShed, but I learnt to do zoom and we did two shows on zoom. I really enjoyed Somewhere over the Rainbow. We had a green screen to use too. We did lots of things on line and kept in touch with some members.
What would you like to happen next at TramShed?
Daniel - I would like to do another show with a script and an audience.
What else have you enjoyed about TramShed?
Daniel - I like the TramShed’s got talent competition on-line at Christmas. Last year me and my mum did a Laurel and Hardy dance. It was good and we came second. Zac always gives me funny lines and I make people laugh. I got good at learning lines when we had a script for a show.
Have you got a famous line?
Daniel - In ‘Fun of the Fair’ I played Gladys, a man trying to get into the WI. I had to pretend to be a woman and said, ‘Oh you cheeky boy!’ it was very funny. In ‘Eclipse’ in 2011 I played the Mayor, but then he joined the circus and as a clown I said ‘We should all have the chance to reach our fulfil potential dearest.’
That is what happens at TramShed.
